The VET office undertake smokey vehicle spotter programme and road side vehicle testing programmes in order to identify the vehicles that running on the road with heavy smoke. The vehicle owners are then informed to proceed the vehicle for emission testing after repair at werahara DMT premises by sending warning letters. Vehicle that doesn’t respond to any of the warning letters are blacklisted and the VET certificate and the revenue license for the respective year cannot be obtained until the vehicle proceed for the testing after rectification. Additionally, the aforementioned vehicle is also blacklisted from DMT vehicle registration system making it impossible to perform any services related to it

The VET office managed a database with details of emission history of any selected vehicle including its odometer reading, test center, certificate number and emission parameters over the years.
This same set of data can be made available to interested personals with a payment to the VET trust fund. With a request, users of vehicle can obtain emission history of their vehicle for last 5 years which includes, among other parameters, odometer reading at the testing time. However, some of the data fields including odometer reading were manually entered by the VET center staff. Therefore the VET trust fund don’t take any responsibility regarding the mismatch of such manually entered data.
VET trust fund provides funds to institutes, universities for undertaking researches, surveys and studies related to vehicle exhaust emission and urban air pollution in order to identify the migratory measures and to implement effective air quality monitoring network in sri lanka. Also the research proposals should be address the policy gaps related to the vehicle emission identified by VETTF. The interested institutes are invited to submit the proposals

The VET trust fund conducts training programmes on VET programme, proper maintenance of vehicles as well a as benefits of Emission testing etc for any interested groups including professional drivers, transport officers etc.
VET recently introduced a NVQ certificate for technicians who perform vehicle emission testing after completion of practical tests/exams. If you have experience related to the emission testing and likes to pursue a NVQ certificate, you are invited to apply for the training.
Considering the fact that breathing of quality air is a basic right of the citizen in the country, general public also asked to be alert of the pollutions happening around them. VET as regulatory body facilitates receiving complaints from environmental concerned public of any such smoky vehicles running on roads. It receives such public complaints from a public complaint platform comprising of email, WhatsApp or Viber. (0703500525). Then the VET office take necessary actions to all these complains. Be A SpotterVET receives complains regarding the malfunctions of the VET center through emails,whatapp or viber. After receiving such complains VET assigned a team to inspect the said VET center and conduct inquiries for such violations. If you have any such complains, you can send us via email,wahtsapp or viber.
