One of the main objectives of the VET project office is to monitor and audit vehicle emission testing programme. The VET office carries out three types of monitoring and inspections.
Overall, these monitoring and inspection techniques showcase the VET project office's commitment to maintaining air quality standards, reducing pollution, and ensuring that vehicles comply with emission regulations. All these programmes are conducted with the support of Air MAC, CEA, MUSSD and MoE officers.
To ensure the efficient and effective execution of the emission testing program, it becomes imperative to consistently raise public awareness regarding vehicular emissions and their environmental impact. This awareness serves to motivate vehicle users to uphold proper vehicle maintenance practices, thereby minimizing exhaust emissions throughout a vehicle's lifespan. With this objective in mind, the VET initiative conducts targeted public awareness campaigns, targeting various demographics including school children, educators, government officials, law enforcement personnel, drivers, technicians, and armed forces personnel. These initiatives are executed in collaboration with experts from universities, technical colleges, as well as officials from the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Environment.
We have customized programs and general awareness programmes. Basically, it covers following segments.
Beyond conventional seminar sessions, the VET office employs diverse engagement strategies such as exhibitions, workshops, poster campaigns, social media video content, radio jingles, and more. These methods collectively foster a comprehensive understanding of the importance of emission reduction, thereby contributing to the overall success of the emission testing program.

APPLY NOW!Enhancing the technical capabilities of garage technicians to address emission-related issues in vehicles forms a critical aspect of the VET program. To achieve this objective, the VET initiative conducts comprehensive training programs for garage technicians across the entire island, in collaboration with technical training institutes and technical colleges. Upon successful completion of these training programs, participants are awarded certificates. Recognizing the diversity of resources available in different garages, the VET fund is in the process of introducing a grading system for these garages. Accredited garages will be prominently listed in relevant districts' VET centers.
In tandem with garage technician training, the VET office is actively involved in elevating the vehicle emission testing profession through the establishment of a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) competency standard. The VET office located in Werahara is registered with the National Institute of Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (NITA) as an NVQ training center. Individuals interested in vehicular emissions and aspiring to attain competency in this domain are encouraged to reach out to the VET project office for further information and engagement.
