Quick Guide
 
Pre-Requirements for the Testing
 
  • Original certificate of registration (CR) or original vehicle identity card (VIC) of the vehicle should be produced along with your vehicle. But if your vehicle is leased, you can do it from a CR or VIC copy which is certified by your leasing company
  • Engine number and chassis number must be cleaned for easy reading.
  • As the engine of the vehicle needs to be at the running temperature when produced for the test, the Engine must be switched on at least for 10 minutes.
  • Vehicles with oil or emission gas leaks are not subjected to the test.
  • The vehicle should be free of water leaks with the engine in good working condition. Make sure no excessive smoke, gas cap in a good condition, no unusual vibration & noises.
  • If newly repaired engine make sure minimum recommended mileage is run before the vehicle testing.
  • In case of any damage caused during testing to a vehicle subjected to the test without confirming to the said requirements, the loss should be borne by the owner.

  • In the event of a failed VET test, two re-tests will be available free of charge within 60 days of the initial Payment date.

Testing Locations
 
 

Your vehicle can be tested from Laugfs Eco Sri or Drivegreen fixed/semi-fixed/mobile testing stations placed around the country.

Exemptions
 
  • With effect from 01.02.2011 all Brand New vehicles are exempted for one year to obtain the revenue license. From the second year obtaining vehicle emission certificate is compulsory for obtaining annual revenue license.
  • Vehicles manufactured prior to 31.12.1975 have been exempted from obtaining vehicle emission certificates.
  • Reconditioned vehicles required to obtain the vehicle emission certificate from the first year registration.
  • All agricultural land vehicles have been exempted from obtaining vehicle emission certificate. Only four wheeled agricultural tractors and hand tractors are considered as agricultural land vehicles.
  • If the owner of the vehicle confirms that the engine of a vehicle has been repaired, a receipt is issued by charging the annual revenue license fee so that the vehicle could be run on the condition of completing 2000 kilometers forward from the number of kilometers depicted on the milometer of the vehicle or 02 months forward from the date of repair of the engine, whichever comes first. Once that condition has been met the owner of the vehicle should obtain the revenue license by producing the vehicle emission certificate.
  • Electrical and hybrid vehicles have been exempted from obtaining the vehicle emission certificate.
  • Only one revenue license can be obtained on one vehicle emission certificate. Vehicle owners are informed to obtain the annual revenue license within 60 days from obtaining the vehicle emission certificate.
Testing Tips

Testing Tips for PETROL VEHICLES

  • Once in line for testing, turn off all accessories (air conditioner, lights, wipers, heater, radio, etc.)
  • Clean or replace air filter & fuel filter.
  • Inspect and clean or replace spark plugs & wires.
  • Adjust air-fuel ratio.
  • Inspect and adjust the choke.
  • Check EGR valve, Lambda sensor for proper installation and functional operation.
  • Check vacuum hoses for cracks, leaks or blockage and repair or replace as required.
  • Repair or replace system parts as required.

Testing Tips for DIESEL VEHICLES

  • Run least 30 min before the test in a reasonable speed to heat your engine. Until your vehicle reaches normal operating temperature, it emits excess pollutants.
  • To remove carbon particles in the exhaust system. Flush your diesel vehicle exhaust system three times by pressing the accelerator your vehicle rapidly few times
  • Turn off all accessories when testing. (Air conditioner, lights, wipers, heater, radio, etc.)
  • While in line, do not shut off engine. This helps to keep the engine at normal operating temperature.
  • Clean or replace air filter & fuel filter.
  • Clean the silencer.
  • Check the injector nozzle condition & mismatch.
  • Check for fuel injector fouling or mismatch and repair or replace as required.
  • Adjust or repair turbocharger.
  • Examine governor, fuel rack and injector timing for possible adjustment.
  • Check the fuel pump.
  • Repair or replace system parts as required.
